ROYD LANE , RIPPONDEN

Another balmy day in 'Costa del Ripponden'! Actually, we only got soaked once and the sun dried us out after lunch.

Jerry, Trish and Eleanor were sorting out a narrow, overgrown path at the top of Royd Lane which had been reported by a local walker. The path runs across fields to Soyland Town but we were just tackling the stretch up to the first stile.

Walkers were complaining that, as they climbed over the stile, they caught their heads on overhanging foliage!

So that was the first job to tackle.

The second issue was the significant gap and drop between the edge of the path and a shed. It was decided that, to make it safe for walkers, that we should widen the path, lay down a grass 'revetment' and put up a warning sign to alert people to the hazard.

Jerry clearing the path back to the wall and moving the 'sods' to form the revetment next to the gap.

And finally the finished job - with foliage cut back and the path widened.. Thanks to Trish for photographing the work!

Afterwards, in response to a request from a local  resident we cleared a  nearby stretch of pavement where encroaching brambles forced pedestrians and people with pushchairs into the road!

'Before' picture, looking up the road, and . . .

. . . 'After' picture, looking down the road - now well strimmed and trimmed!

This work was funded by Ripponden Parish Council and individual donations. Thanks to all concerned.
