Today was a "Marker-Posts-R-Us" sort of a day. Fred and Kasher packed their passports and ventured to the Calderdale boundary and sorted out marker posts above Widdop reservoir.
The Pennine Way marker post to Walshaw and Colden (Wadsworth 010) was rotten and needed cutting- down and reinstating. A simple task made more complicated by less than obliging ground conditions!

2. Fred starting to reinstate the post. |
We then moved to near the boundary with Briercliffe and put in a yellow-topped marker post to indicate the end of Heptonstall 001 on Great Edge Bottom. This was to replace the fingerpost which had disappeared. It is also unfortunate that this area is marred by fly tipping - a collection of household waste and car tyres!

On our way back to Slack, we checked all marker posts, steps and stiles along the roadside and noted those that may need some TLC.
4. One post to add to the "to do" list. |
5. Fred sorting out a set of steps. |
Further down the hill, on Lee Wood Road, we worked on two marker posts on the Calderdale Bridleway (Heptonstall 051). Unfortunately, the last of these marker posts was concreted in place and it took a considerable amount of time (and energy) to remove. However, we have cut down and reinstated these two posts and have replaced the badly faded bridleway signs.
6. Reinstating the cut-down post. |
