CROWS had decided to have a clear up day for small tasks that were outstanding. Fred and Kasher gathered together a number of tasks in the Todmorden area which needed to be removed from the "to do" list.
1. Bridestones:
a) Last week we looked at the short boardwalk near the entrance to Bridestones and realised that there were problems with one of the stringers. Today we returned to the boardwalk and cleared the grass and soft rush from the area to have a better look. One stringer will need replacing in the next 6-12 months but we improved matters by adding an anchoring stob to reduce the amount of flex.

b) The fence near the entrance to Bridestones appeared to have been damaged. We decided that the installation of a dog gate may be useful for people who use this moor for walking their dogs. This would also block the large hole which had been created by the removal of some of the rails.

2. Footpath down to Windy Harbour:
The fingerpost at the end of Windy Harbour Lane had rotted at the base and was propped against a nearby wall. We cut down the post slightly and reinstated the fingerpost adjacent to the wall.

3. Calderdale Way between Great Rock and Staups Moor:
Problems with a stile on Blackshaw 055 had been reported. We have moved the barbed wire further away from the stile and have replaced the rotten and disintegrating tread-board.

4. Reviewing the route of Blackshaw 056 near Staveley Cote:
The footpath (Blackshaw 056) had been the subject of discussions over the last few months. The footpath has been way-marked on part of the route. We will return here to review the RoW, to way-mark and to repair the stile(s).

5. Cutting back and clearing the stile near Stoodley Gate:
There is a small double stile on Todmorden 036. This was overgrown and impassable. We have cut back the vegetation, added staples on the tread-boards and have way-marked the route. Let's hope that this path is used to keep the stiles and the route clear and passable.
