TODMORDEN -Various

As part of 'Todmorden Week of Action' CROWS have arranged for volunteers to work in the Todmorden area on our work days this week (the week beginning 10 October).

Today, Neil M and Kasher worked at Moor Bank Clough on Todmorden 143 to improve the stream crossing. This path is on the Todmorden Centenary Way and climbs from Calderbrook Road to the track near the Allescholes milestone.

1. Near Tod 143: railway ventilation shaft and
rainbow (just!).

In dry weather the path over this clough is passable but after heavy rains it becomes more 'challenging'!

2. Neil M trying to reposition a large stepping stone.

We have attempted to install safe and secure stepping stones, away from the exposed edge, to make it easier to cross the clough. This may be work in progress. It was hard to judge whether these large stones will be sufficient after heavy rains . . .  time will tell!

3. Not the easiest of stream crossings.

We then moved to Todmorden 193 to clear the turn-bys down to Ragby Bridge. (The turn-bys on the other side of the stream had been cleared a few weeks ago). The clearing of these should help parts of the route to dry out, but some causey stones may remain wet and slippery because there are not enough turn-bys on this FP to cope with the amount of water that drains off the nearby grassland.

4. Neil starting the turn-by clearing.

5. A cleared turn-by.

Today's work was funded by Todmorden Council. Many thanks.
