MYTHOLMROYD: Bell House Moor and Erringden Moor

Bell House Moor: The boardwalks continue . . .

A hardworking team of Ian S, Ken, Paul, Stella and Frank H organised a repeat performance of CROWS' July efforts to set up the worksite for part 2 of the boardwalk project.

Here's how the day went:

1. Efficient teamwork . . . but there are a lot of bags!
CALVAG arrive with a load of stringers (3 m x 100 mm x 100 mm posts) on board and collect the pre-prepared bearers, cross-treads, stobs, overlaps and kickboards (all bagged-up for ease of handling).

The loaded truck then sets off to Bell House with Ian's vehicle in hot pursuit! At Bell House all is unloaded and stacked in preparation for Saturday's Big Carry 2.

2. Paul and Ian fitting the last of the
kick-boards at worksite 1.
3. Pre-boardwalk. As a reminder, the state of
the path in 'normal' conditions! . . . an
ever-widening treacherous bog!

4. The first section of boardwalk at
worksite 2 . . . with Paul and Ian
under strict supervision!
5. First section of new boardwalk in
place. It's level, both horizontally and
laterally . . . not a surprise as the
number of supervisors has increased!

6. Ken in action . . . but is it a punt or a boardwalk!
There's lots of construction work to do here.
Once the Big Carry 2 has got all our timber to worksite 2, CROWS can embark on building sections of boardwalks to form a safe route across this potentially boggy area (think picture 3 but deeper!).

There will be one or two technical difficulties (mainly due to uneven ground conditions) but we have a plan to solve these.

Mmm! The next session or two will see if this plan actually works! . . .

. . . The excitement mounts!
