HEBDEN BRIDGE - Old Chamber

Old Chamber -  stylish finish

With poor weather in the offing, we checked three different forecasts. All promised rain, sleet and snow in various combinations and quantities. None of it arrived! Instead Kasher and Frank H had a chilly day, with a minor amount of fine drizzle, to complete the job on a stile that gives access to Crow Nest Wood below Old Chamber.

The work we did last week has a deceptive perspective. Until you get close to the stile, the cross-rails seem to have a distinct and very alarming slope! However, the spirit level cannot lie . . .

. . . This is just about as horizontal as you can get!

Today's task was to add a single step to this quite low stile, re-fix and re-tension the stock fence, re-fix the barbed wire, tidy up the dog-gate, add a grab pole and landscape the stile step area.

Ground conditions limited the exact location of the leg hole positions and frozen fingers made stapling and wire twisting awkward but otherwise the task was straightforward.

Work in progress: Step legs
in place and stock fence wires
prepared for straining
and fixing.
Finished job: Treadboard in
place, grab pole added and
stock fence attached.

Overall, we have gone from this . . .                                                    . . . to this

Original stile.
End result: New stile with Frank H
masquerading as an elderly pensioner!

Today's work was made possible by a donation from the landowner. Many thanks.
