Stella, Ray, and Frank S were at the head of the Luddenden valley beside Castle Carr Gatehouse. Here the road ends and you can walk back down to Jerusalem Farm, or you can do what we did which is to walk straight up the hillside. There's a magnificent set of 100 stone steps that a previous working party uncovered, and above that we thought there might be more steps, though you wouldn't believe it from the picture.
And here's the view through the little gate after we'd uncovered the steps.
There were only another 17 stone steps, so beyond those we just cut back the bracken and heather to open up the very narrow path. Then a bit higher still there were overgrown wooden steps.
And when they were cleared the path looked like this.
It was a lovely day out in the sunshine, and walkers will now find it much easier to use this path.
