There were jobs on two of the Barkisland Village walks today. Lynda and Bernard worked on the very overgrown Firth House Lane leading up from Black Brook at Berry Mills .
We had worked on it earlier in the summer but the vegetation had come back with a vengeance, so ...
Bernard manfully set to with the hedge trimmer, while Lynda worked her magic with shears and loppers
Result! Let's hope once the walk leaflet is published the extra footfall will keep this lovely path clear.
Meanwhile Stella and Eleanor worked on a couple of stiles between Saddleworth and Scammonden Roads
Job One. If you managed to squeeze through the tiny gap you still had to face barbed wire running along the top rail.
Stella painstakingly removed all the barbs off the barbed wire and stones were removed to widen the gap.
Job done and ......
For good measure, some of the displaced stones were used to make the stile more user friendly.
Job Two.
There is a gap stile in there somewhere.
A good day's work, but unfortunately we discovered a very narrow gap stile on the path between two fields, with two rows of barbed wire and an electric fence to be negotiated as you squeezed through, so a return visit is essential.
This work is funded by a grant from Ripponden Parish Council.
