WALSDEN

A fine and sunny day for Mick and Frank H to tackle a series of tasks in the Walsden area.

Job 1. Ramsden Wood

Replacement cross-treads on a footbridge which has seen much 'patching-up' in recent times.

The bridge is serviceable at the moment but major work may be needed in a year or two . . . and it's a long carry with timber!

Job 2. Ramsden Wood

Rotten treadboard replaced. A seemingly straightforward task that was beset with trivial difficulty after trivial difficulty. Good job we weren't on piece-work!

Job 3. Allescholes

Treadboard replaced. No glitches this time!

Job 4a. Inchfield area

Fingerpost re-installed. Now firmly in place, vertical and pointing in the correct direction!

Job 4b. Inchfield area

Treadboard replaced. Trickier this time because the single step-leg had some surface rot which was not evident until the old tread had been removed. Additionally, the other end of the tread, being unsecured, was merely resting on the through stone and free to 'drift'. Some creative construction solved these problems and created a firm, stable step.

Overall an entertaining day in the South Pennines during which Mick's minimalist approach to equipment was off-set by Frank's ingenuity!

Work funded by donations to CROWS.
