Ray and Stella continued work (suspended during lockdown) on the steps down to a footbridge at the top of the quiet arm of Ryburn Resevoir. It was a 10-minute walk-in with tools and timber (with welcome help from Eleanor & Lynda), but a lovely sunny day to be working in early Spring woodland. We were graced by two nuthatches calling to each other.
The original steps were very solidly installed but most have now rotted and needed replacement or repair. Our ingenuity was tested once or twice when it proved impossible to get stobs into the very rocky ground. There are three steps left to do in the next week or two. Work funded by Ripponden Parish Council.

A slightly frustrating start for Lynda and Eleanor as the job that had been reported as needing doing had mostly been done when they got there! Some community-minded local residents perhaps ? They'd done a good job of clearing the path of ancient gorse bushes. Undaunted though we worked our way down this lovely path from Gig Mill towards Ryburn dam cutting back holly, pruning branches and generally making good. However towards the end of the path there is a very water-logged section which needs sorting out to make the path more accessible once again. Back next week to make a start on tackling the drainage issues. No meaningful photos today !!
