TODMORDEN - Above Gorpley Reservoir

Ken and Ian V set out across Inchfield Moor from Gorpley Reservoir carrying three new yellow-top posts and the usual steel bar and tools needed to install posts. Our brief was to check out all the posts across the moor, re-plant any loose ones, paint any yellow tops that needed it and replace any posts that had gone missing or were completely rotten. The soil on the moor is mainly deep peat and so it was no surprise that many of the posts had become loose and needed to be re-installed. After fixing around ten posts we got about two thirds of the way across the moor and landed in deep bog. We'd run out of new posts and realised that the path needs to be re-routed around the bog. Another session with more posts is needed to finish the job.

Wonky posts
