Todmorden:- Cornholme
On a cloudy but fine day. Mick and Frank H returned to Shore New Road to carry out remedial work on the bench that was surveyed last week. Here's how work progressed:
Old bench: Side-pieces are in adequate condition although slightly out of line, seat plank is unattached, back plank is missing, stubs of old bolts are rusted into the side-piece holes.
Stage 1: New back plank bolted in place
Stage 2: Seat plank positioned
Stage 3: Seat plank bolted in place. Step-up and foot-platform created. Back-filling completed and 'landscaped'.
Stage 4: Bench tested by mysterious masked stranger. Any clues to his identity to be written in pencil on the back of a £5.00 note and sent to CROWS. Unfortunately there is no reward!
Today's work was done in memory of Gerald King (aged 80) who died earlier this year. Gerald was originally from Todmorden although he spent some time in Canada before returning to his home town. He was a founder member of CROWS and active on volunteer tasks until shortly before his death. Hardworking, insightful and an enthusiastic reciter of poetry he was held in high regard, and is missed by us all. Work funded by CROWS
