Lynda, Trish and Eleanor returned, after several months, to clear the Motte Path off Towngate. When we came here before, we tackled the brambles and I am happy to say it made a real difference to the clearing job today. The path, however, was completely overgrown again, despite the best efforts of local residents putting down bits of old carpet to suppress the growth.
This time it was mainly nettles that needed to be pulled up by the roots....

The path reveals itself. As well as providing access to the historic site of the Motte , the path leads down from the heart of Sowerby to Pinfold Lane and other wallks around the village, so its important to keep it open. We talked to the 'commissioner' of the work about edging the path and putting some kind of surface covering down to make it more manageable and inviting.
