MYTHOLMROYD:- Wood Hey Lane

 Wood Hey Lane:

Frank S and Frank H worked a short session to put the finishing touches to the stile which CROWS constructed last Wednesday. Here's how the morning started:-

This is the stile almost as it was last Wednesday. However, very sharp-eyed followers of the Blog will notice that the two NO CYCLING signs have been removed - an act of petty vandalism and theft.

The footpath down to this stile is used by those mountain bikers who are not only oblivious to the idea that cycling on public footpaths is illegal but also seem fecklessly ignorant about the damage they are doing to the path surface and adjoining grazing land.

The ground level on the field side of the stile is level with the top step. This means the top rail although at the correct height in relation to the top step on the track side, is not high enough to deter stock from 'escaping'. The easiest solution to this problem is to add a small 'gate' to the stile. Here it is:-

As well as fitting the gate (complete with 'stop strip', closure loop and 'Please Shut the Gate' sign) we firmed-up the adjacent fence posts and added a bracing strut.

The new structure is safe, secure, stylish (no pun intended) and durable. Under normal use it should give years of service.

Just as we finished a dog walker appeared. The dog bounded up . . . one step ...  two steps and energetically cleared the 'gate' section. We were impressed. The dog owner, to our relief, opted for a more traditional approach and complimented CROWS on the quality of the work. Thank you.
