STEPHENSON HOUSE

Paul and Stella returned to Stephenson House to the permissive path down the steps.  We repaired a couple more steps, filled in with aggregate where necessary and then started on the repairs to the stile at the bottom of the steps.  The lower step on this was like a see-saw, and when we removed it we could see why - both legs were loose and squelchy in standing water in their post holes. The weather closed in, the job got (much) muddier, the timber was too wet to saw well.  So yes, we retreated to the depot to cut fresh timber in dry conditions and will return, hopefully next week, to rebuild the lower step.
