Stephenson House
Ray, Frank H and Angie (newbie!) continued the work near Stephenson House. The priority job was to build a boardwalk across a stream. This (not very good) picture shows the area when water levels are very low:
The stream, however, responds dramatically and rapidly in wet weather to make any crossing a hazardous venture; a particular problem for families following one of the Mytholmroyd Children's Walks!.
The following shows the boardwalk in progress with stringers held in place by temporary stobs and cross-treads.
Some time later:
Following this, Angie (aka nail-demon) added staples to the cross-treads to improve underfoot grip, and the approach to the boardwalk was landscaped (no photos).
Additional minor tasks were adding a rail to some fencing, repairing a different boardwalk, fixing the stock fence more neatly to the stile (just visible in the above picture) and adding revetment on the approach to that stile (see following pictures).
There is small amount of revetment work still to do along with more landscaping. Those tasks are scheduled for later this month when we'll also start construction of the next boardwalk . . . providing we survive the long carry to the worksite!
Overall an excellent day:- fine weather, no major technical problems, a significant input from Angie and overall, more progress than expected.
Today's work, to make this route safer and more accessible, was funded by Huddersfield University (Ted Hughes Walks), Mytholmroyd Walkers' Action and individual donations.
