BARKISLAND

Today Ginny, Lynda and Eleanor returned to Barkisland to finish a few outstanding jobs left over from our last work party, which was on a very wet day. Today, however, was dry and sunny, so we were hopeful!

We had found this finger post leaning beside the path. It was rotten at the bottom, so we sawed it down , and re-installed it .....

Significantly shorter , but it does the business !

Next we returned to the stile that we hadn't been able to fix last time because of flooding.

Unfortunately, although the water had receded considerably, the ground around the stile was still too waterlogged for the leg and treadboard to be fixed, so we had to leave it. Slightly frustrating! The only job we could do was to change some incorrect waymarks ... and hope for a dry spell in the new year...

Meanwhile Ginny and Lynda proceeded down Sandyfoot Clough to the site where a revetment needs to be installed above a very dangerous drop. They did some preparation work by cutting back holly to reveal the edge of the path. Future work on this site will require great care.

We spent the rest of the session reconnoitering the route of a path that will form one of 3 village walks around Barkisland. An enjoyable walk in the sunshine !
