Several teams out today
Team 1: Paul and Frank H returned to the path above Wicken Farm to continue the improvement work started last week. It was a case of 'deja vu' - same task, same location, same blisteringly hot conditions and same flies (or relatives thereof) - with the added bonus of flying ants! However, because of an afternoon meeting, it was only a half-day of work. Here are 'before' and 'after' pictures.
The path forks at this point. The right-hand branch (our main focus of work) goes up onto Midgley Moor, the left-hand branch (where we've added one step to facilitate access) leads towards Mount Skip golf club.
There's more to do here:- one or two steps added at the bottom right will help progress up what was a 'very slippery when wet' path. Work should continue in a week or two, once Paul has returned from yet another holiday. Retirement is a very serious business!
Work funded by individual donations.
Team 2 Bernard, Dick and Rich did preparatory work for a major project to rebuild the steps going down to Hebble Hole bridge.
As well as signage, local residents were visited and a plan of how to tackle the project was worked out.
Work starts next Wednesday, funded by Calderdale Highways
Team 3 Ian and Gerald worked on cutting back and clearing the steps between Osborne Street and Commercial Street in Hebden Bridge. These had been reported as being dangerous when wet due to overhanging vegetation dropping leaves onto the steps.
