Undeterred by Storm Gareth...
...four sturdy work parties set out to find relatively sheltered work.
Team 1 was Rich meeting Jan Gibson from Highways at Crow Nest Wood above Hebden Bridge. The paths in the wood are very badly scoured and in some places difficult to negotiate. They also form a fast, steep stream taking water down towards the station at a significant rate of knots! So the aim is to sort the drainage which will resurrect the paths and slow the flow of water.
It was a good day to survey...
We discovered several turnbys and drains on the hillside that were blocked so the tracks were doubling up as a water-course, shooting the water down the paths into Crow Nest Wood.
The plan is:
This work will require several landowners' permission and will be a big job, but since these paths have been well used by local people in the past, so we think it will be worth the effort.
Then on to Todmorden (with Mick Chatham) and Widdop to put up information boards near Open access points.
They look a lot better than before we started!
The information boards were funded by Community Foundation for Calderdale, who work with RES (Renewable Energy Systems) who operate Todmorden Wind Farm.

Is it a path or a stream? |

We discovered several turnbys and drains on the hillside that were blocked so the tracks were doubling up as a water-course, shooting the water down the paths into Crow Nest Wood.
The plan is:
- Stage 1 is to deal with the source of the water on the hillside
- Stage 2 is put in extra side drains to take the water off the paths
- Stage 3 is to re-route paths where the current ones are too damaged
