HARDCASTLE CRAGS

Fred and Frank H continued last week's work of constructing steps leading upwards from the log-circle in Hardcastle Crags. It was another blisteringly hot, sunny day in Calderdale!

Area where steps are being constructed
Four steps were put in before lunch. There were some problems with the ground because of rocks and roots, but the 'if in doubt hit it harder' technique prevailed.

Work in progress
After lunch, side revetments were fixed in place and the tread areas consolidated.

Revetment, banking and tread area finished.
Following this, some preparatory work for the next section was carried out and a couple of steps constructed.

Area for next few steps. The ground is steeper than the picture suggests.

Two steps in place but consolidation will be needed next week
There's lots of bedrock here. We had to re-position one step; a realignment that meant removing one of our own stobs. Mmm! Tiring and tricky . . . because it was so well rammed-in in the first place! No-one to blame but ourselves!
Next week, more of the same:- sun coming out, stobs going in, flies buzzing down, ants crawling up and numerous other prepositional events!
