HARDCASTLE CRAGS, OLD TOWN, CHARLESTOWN & BELL HOUSE

Bernard, Ian and Stuart did a last check and some improvements to the new Slurring Rock path.

Rich and Gerald collected a finger post from Sowerby Bridge.

Destined for Erringden Moor, it turned a few heads in Halifax!

They then put in a marker post on a confusing bit of the Calderdale Way above Allswell Farm.

Junction of the CW and a link path is now clear
Richard J, Dick and Fred went up to Bell House to remove some marker posts and make preparations for next week.

Back at the depot, the timber is getting all stacked up ready for transporting up to Bell House.

A small selection!

Meanwhile on the slippery slope above Oakville Road in Charlestown, Paul and Frank H continued the excellent work from last week (thanks to Fred and Paul).
On a day enlivened by heavy showers, steps were the name of the game!

The slope at end of last week's work. Some grading to do and some rotten risers to take out.

Same slope but with additional steps in place.

After getting wet several times and following a late lunch we moved onto the second section of the slope. This was trickier being beset with compacted shale, embedded rocks and awkward tree roots. However ...

A stone step pinned in place and one wooden step added.

Towards the end of the session with two more steps added.

The slope is OK for the moment. Six more steps might be needed but it could be a few weeks before we can get back to this site. Everything has been left tidy (ish) and rubbish taken to the tip.

'Life is a slope . . . It's slow going up and quick going down!'
(Guy de Maupassant: 1850-1893)

Mmm! This sound wry or even a bit whimsical . . . . . .  the full quote is certainly more depressing!
See you next week.
