COLDEN

Peter, Eleanor, Lynda, Gerald and Rich worked on two paths.

Broad Lane (above Edgehey Green)
Path pretty overgrown all the way up with bilberry and trees making the path very narrow. Path cut back all the way up..

Part of the upper path with encroaching vegetation

Conifers making it difficult to pass

Easy to get through now.
At the top we discovered the finger post was down, but didn't have the tools to deal with it - a job for next week.

Pennine Way below Goosehey Farm

The job was to deal with the path being overgrown with sedge grass and brambles. Before we could start we had to deal with a really bad drainage problem at the stile.

Wading through slurry!

Now a hard surface to cross
The whole drainage system on this hillside is not working, with sewage seeping out at the bottom of the path straight into Colden Water. Environment Agency have taken samples and have asked Yorkshire Water to investigate.

The flagged path was only about a foot wide so instead of just cutting back on the worst section, we took the sedge grass back to the edge of the flags.

The narrow overgrown path before we started

The same stretch of path after.
Brilliant sunny day with great views!
