CRAGG Vale - steps and drainage

A team of three, Andy, Frank S, and Nick, were in Cragg Vale today with jobs at three locations on the river-side paths near Spa Bridge and Clough Foot Bridge.

The first job was the stile over the wall by Spa Bridge. The step on the roadside had rotted and fallen over, and one of the steps on the other side was drooping at a strange angle. We fixed these steps, added two grab poles, and replaced two more rotten steps just downstream of the bridge. Then we cleared vegetation encroaching on the rest of the steps near the bridge and levelled the tread areas, both left to right and front to back.

We then moved upsteam to the junction where the path climbing through the wood meets a path along the contour. Here the waymark post had rotted and fallen over, and so we replaced it with a new one.

Then down to near Clough Foot Bridge where water seeping across the path was making it very muddy. We dug drains to catch the water and direct it to where it could more easily cross the path.

This work was funded by the Cragg Vale Community Association. Thank you for your support.
