WADSWORTH - Lumb Falls

The drain that runs down the path from Sunny Bank to Lumb Falls has over topped (again) and water is running down the grassy path. That, combined with a lot of footfall, is beginning to erode the surface, so Ginny and Rich went down to do some emergency remedial work.

Today's work was funded by Moi Outside in Hebden Bridge. Many thanks.

The details

After some investigation, we discovered the old drain which was buried under a mat of sedge.

A slight dip in the land indicated there might be a watercourse

Some probing proved correct, so all we needed to do was to clear out the ditch (no mean feat!).

The old drain was uncovered and running freely

Some signs of an old stone surface emerging

The photos don't really do this old (18th century?) drain justice It probably hadn't been seen for decades so it was really pleasing to see (and hear) it working again.

We will revisit in a few weeks to make sure it is all still working and also check the drain lower down.
