Ripponden - Dick Lane clearance work.

The first day of Spring saw Jerry, Graham and Angus tackle a fallen tree at the end of Dick lane where it joins Bar Lane at Lower Swift Place - see map below. The tree, comprised of five trunks, had split at its base with two trunks falling across the bridleway. A third smaller trunk had split from the fallen trunk and become lodged in the remaining part of the tree.

The location of the fallen tree is shown as a red circle.

The fallen tree to be removed.

The initial work was relatively straight-forward and the bridleway was soon clear, we managed to pull the third section of trunk which was hung-up free from its position and it was quickly dismantled.

Jerry and Graham dismantling the first sections of the tree.

Bridleway now clear with the trunks logged.

The second task was to finish the cutting-back started a couple of weeks ago by Eleanor and Linda. Although this route is designated as a bridleway it is mostly used by walkers but the cutting-back has now made it passable for horse riders.

Before and after images of the clearance work.

Fans of Happy Valley may recognize the upper section of Dick Lane from Series 3. It is where the pharmacist accessed the rear of the school teacher's house on Stones Drive.

Today's work was made possible by funding from Ripponden Parish Council and from individual donations to CROWS. Many thanks.
