TODMORDEN AND HEBDEN BRIDGE

Two teams out today.

Team 1. Hebden Bridge (Sandy Gate)

Paul and Frank H worked on a stile that had the bonus of being next to the road. Hooray! No long-distance carrying of tools and materials. Here's the stile before work began.

At first glance, the stile seems to be adequate but the very low crossrail is hardly stock-proof. On closer inspection additional problems were found -  the 'not very vertical' up-rights are loose and the railing to left of picture was in poor condition.

Work progressed:

Work in progress: stile side-posts now vertical and firm., fence
rails replaced or re-used and new step legs in place.

Work in progress: fence rails removed

Some time later:

New treadboard, new crossrails but old fence timbers (re-cycling was possible)

View from roadside: Finished stile and 'rebuild' of fence.

You might just be able to read the sign on the stile. If not here's a clue ...

... or two

Mmm! A lot of' 'beef' here. No wonder marker-posts, fence posts, stiles and gates suffer when given a heavy-duty lean!

Later in the afternoon, at Daisy Bank, Wadsworth Lane, a loose treadboard on another stile was re-fixed and some encroaching foliage cut back.

This work was funded by local donations. More donations are always welcome!
